CBD Oil – A guide to CBD, how and when to use the oil

What is CBD Oil good for and how does it work?

The presence or absence of CBD oil in Sweden has been on the agenda several times. There have been many rumors about whether cannabidiol products should be sold or not, but what exactly is CBD oil? What is it used for? And what should you keep in mind when choosing oil?

In this guide, we sort out some question marks around CBD oil (sometimes called hemp oil). However, it is important to distinguish between hemp oil and hemp seed oil. CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant’s stem, leaves, flowers and stem while hemp seed oil is extracted from hemp seeds.

So what is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is extracted from a plant called Cannabis sativa. It is a fast-growing annual herb that has been cultivated for thousands of years. CBD is an abbreviation for Cannabidiol. It is one of the many chemical components found in the cannabis plant. Interest in CBD has increased dramatically in recent years.

Unlike THC, which is also found in the plant, CBD has no psychoactive effect or intoxication.

CBD reacts with the so-called endocannabinoid system. It is a signaling system in the body that handles the communication between cells, the nervous system, the immune system, organs and other parts of the body.

How does CBD Oil work?

CBD oil contains cannabidiol which stands for CBD. The substance is completely free from the psychoactive property and can thus be safely consumed without being illegal or giving strange side effects. On the contrary, the oil is a so-called “miracle oil” which is said to have a reducing effect on pain, counteract vomiting during chemotherapy, relieve spasms and most of all – have a pain-reducing effect on everything from headaches and migraines to severe pain in back pain or cancer patients. CBD is also a great help for depression and anxiety, where the oil relieves significantly. Research has also concluded that it acts as a suppressant for acne, psoriasis and eczema.

What is CBD oil used for?

The cannabis plant has historically been used for medicinal purposes for various ailments. It has been used primarily to relieve pain (including rheumatic pain and osteoarthritis), alleviate anxiety, and relieve symptoms of epilepsy.

There are many different claims about the effect of CBD oil but there is a lack of scientific support for many of these. As cannabis has been and continues to be classified as a drug, this has made research on its medical potential more difficult.

Thus, there are practical reasons why the subject is rather poorly studied, but there are countless anecdotal descriptions from people who have been helped by CBD products.

Common uses are:

  • Relieves pain
  • Prevents vomiting
  • Anxiety suppressant
  • Appetite promotion
  • Relieves rashes and eczema etc.
  • Relieves spasms in MS and epilepsy

How is CBD oil used and how is it dosed?

CBD oil is CBD mixed with a carrier oil which can be hemp seed oil, coconut oil or olive oil. The concentration of CBD can vary between 1% and 15%. A common concentration to begin with is around 5%.

The usual dosage is to start with 1 drop and then increase by 1 drop per day until the effect is achieved. Oil-based CBD oil is usually dropped under the tongue where it is allowed to lie for 90 seconds and act before drinking anything. Dosage may vary between different manufacturers and depending on the concentration you have chosen, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you get more tired than usual of the CBD product, you may need to reduce the dose and wait longer between higher doses, ie increase by 1 drop every other day or 1 drop a week.

Is CBD oil legal in Sweden in 2021?

CBD oil is still in a gray zone. The fact that it comes from the Cannabis plant makes oil a hot topic of debate. The issue of legality in Sweden concerns both drug legislation and pharmaceutical legislation.

Industrial hemp that contains less than 0.2 percent THC is legal to grow and possess in Sweden. It was previously assumed that the CBD oil sold in Sweden and which contains less than 0.2 percent THC was therefore not classified as a drug. In June 2019, however, the Supreme Court ruled that CBD oil containing THC should be classified as a drug.
